Arrested for a DUI in Seattle? We Can Help!

If you’ve been arrested and charged with a DUI in Seattle, Bellevue or anywhere in the state of Washington, you may wonder how this arrest will affect your life. Will you be able to drive to work? How will you support your family? What will happen to your insurance rates?

These are all valid questions and it is vital to get the answers you need after a DUI arrest. At Lewis & Laws, PLLC, our Washington DUI defense lawyers know that a DUI can adversely affect your entire life and future. That is why we work quickly to help mitigate the damage and protect your driving record. You can fight DUI charges, but only if you have the right legal representation.

Seattle DUI Consequences

In Seattle and throughout Washington, anyone caught driving with a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) level over 0.08 percent can be arrested for DUI. If you are younger than 21 years old, you can face DUI charges with a BAC of just 0.02 percent.

An arrest and DUI charge will result in the automatic suspension of your driver's license. This suspension can last from between 90 days to 2 years depending on the nature of your arrest and the severity of the charges. You have 20 days from the date of the arrest to request a hearing to challenge this suspension.

A license suspension makes it difficult, if not impossible, to resume your normal daily activities. You may be unable to get to work or visit family and friends. To help you during this time, you may be able to apply for an ignition interlock device to be installed. This can cost a significant amount of money to install and you must also show proof of an SR-22 insurance form.

DUI Penalties

DUI consequences normally include:

  • Jail time of 1-364 days
  • Electronic home monitoring
  • License suspension from 90 days to 2 years
  • Fines ranging from $990 to $5,000
  • Ignition interlock device requirement
  • High risk insurance (SR-22)
  • Alcohol and/or drug treatment
  • Probation

Fighting Seattle DUI Charges

When you face DUI charges, the worst thing you can do is just accept them. There are ways to fight these charges and regain your driving privileges. There are even ways to keep a DUI off your record completely. At Lewis & Laws, PLLC, our Seattle DUI defense attorneys can work quickly to keep the DUI off your record. We can do this in a number of ways.

When you are arrested by a Seattle Police Officer, King County Sheriff, or Washington State Trooper, they must abide by certain rules and regulations. They must not make an arrest without probable cause and they must notify you that taking a field sobriety test is optional. If they fail to do this, we can challenge the results in court and get your DUI thrown out. This is just one of the ways we can help you avoid a DUI conviction.
